Pilates benefits for runners

by Rachael Reeves 06 Nov, 2019
Runners can really benefit from doing Pilates as the key to a better run can be in the deep core muscles, which you're probably not engaging yet! Adding Pilates to your training routine can help you to understand how to recruit these deep core muscles to help you keep your spine stabilised and also work on strengthening other often neglected muscles such as the glutes (bottom muscles) and inner thighs. After time in practising Pilates this will help you to develop recruitment and strengthen these muscles resulting in a greater core strength and control, leading to better posture and more efficient running form. Studies have also found that when runners have weakness in their core muscles this could lead to an increased risk of lower back pain over time.
